Rewriting Programmer API Specs, Day 2: The Read Through

A few days ago I blogged about rewriting programmer API specs. My post for Day 1 can give you the overview. After Day 1, Day 2, yes? Well, Day 1’s task–getting oriented–took more than a day. Day 2’s tasks–wading into the weeds and reading through the text–took two days. The original document was only 40 pages, but page count means nothing when you’re reading text that uses different terms for the same technical concept, spreads related information throughout the document like it’s butter on toast, and sprouts random ideas–I mean, random ideas–every 5th page.
